Chelsea believes it is never to late to start something meaningful. She went back to nursing school as a post-baccaluareate after feeling drawn to the hospital when her father was sick with terminal cancer. she learned to advocate for him at his bedside and has always found a purposeful calm in using her voice to create change. Whether it is advocating for her patients as a Registered Nurse or fighting for representation in surfing, she is willing to face the challenge.
Growing up in a Washington state, where the coastline is intimidating and rugged she didn’t always have a deep connection to the ocean. She took up surfing At The age of 30, not knowing the impact it would have on her life today. At the time she was one of the only black women in her local lineup and knew she could help shift the landscape of representation in surfing, co-founding Textured waves in 2019. She is now a Vans Global Surf Athlete and a leading figure in the African American surf community. as a mother, she hopes to Continue to shift the narrative of how women and athletes are represented.
